The Middle East Program primarily focuses on Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran with the aim of analysing the regional security scenario and its main roots of instability, working for the elaboration of the concept of a new Multilateral Regional Security Arrangement (MRSA) as a model for achieving true regional stability, which cannot imposed by a super-power or by an external coalition, but which positively involves all the regional actors without exclusions.
Specific attention has been dedicated to the Iranian nuclear program and to the necessity of a better understanding of the different regional security threats perceptions, as well as to the role of that Country in the enlarged region. Concerning Iraq, in 2004, it has elaborated a human-capability building programme and a scientific and academic cooperation in collaboration with the Iraqi university system, as part of the Italian efforts for enhancing the new Iraq capacity-building. LNCV regularly organizes also International Workshops and Round-Tables on the stabilization process with the participation of representatives of all Iraqi ethno-religious communities.
