
The Landau Network-Centro Volta (LNCV), founded in 1995 at the Centro di Cultura Scientifica "Alessandro Volta" in Como, Italy, is a non-profit and non-governmental organization operating as an international network. Its research-projects are mainly focused on security and international policy issues, such as non-proliferation projects, regional stability in the Middle East, South Asia, and the Korean Peninsula, NBC disarmament and arms control matters, and water security.
LNCV is supported mainly by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission, Ente per le Nuove Tecnologie, l’Energia e l’Ambiente (ENEA), Lombardy Region, the Municipality of Como as well as several Italian, EU and US Foundations on a project basis.
LNCV is also the seat of the Executive Secretariat of the International Working Group for the European Nuclear Cities Initiatives (since 1999). It cooperates with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a think-tank and analysis centre, with the DG for Science, Research and Development of the European Commission and with the Department of Nuclear Energy of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Scientific Board of the LNCV consists of world-renowned international experts who possess significant experience in geopolitical affairs and in scientific-technological fields related to disarmament, non-proliferation and global problems.
LNCV printed and electronic publications include the Proceedings of the International Workshops organized, assessment reports, case studies and working-papers.

Maurizio Martellini is Secretary General of the Landau Network-Centro Volta, Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Insubria (Como, Italy) and Member of the Pugwash General Conferences. He published in the fields of fundamental physics on specialized journals and authored about a hundred articles on national and international geopolitical and international affairs. He is member of the Scientific Council of Limes – The Italian Review of Geopolitics. As Secretary General of LNCV, Prof. Martellini organized International Conferences, Schools and Workshops and edited publications as well as specific Case Studies. His fields of Research and Analysis are: methods in theoretical and nuclear physics; global issues concerning energy efficiency, military conversion (dual-use technologies), management and disposal of radioactive waste; scientific and technological aspects concerning international security, NBCR disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation issues; internationalization of Science and Technology as a tool of multilateral cooperative diplomacy.

Riccardo Redaelli is Associate Senior Fellow at the “Landau Network – Centro Volta” (LNCV), Como as well as Associate Professor of “History of Civilizations and Political Culture” and of “Geopolitics” at the Catholic University of the S. Heart, Milano. Since 2005 he is the scientific coordinator of a program of human-capacity building and Scientific-Academic Cooperation with the Iraqi university system, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Center for the Peace in Middle East (CIPMO, Milano), he is one of the founding member of the Scientific Association Asia Maior and Associate Researcher at the Institute for International Politics Studies (ISPI), Milano. During the ‘90s, he carried out extensive field-works in Pakistan, Iran and Xinjiang. His current research-projects focus on contemporary history, international politics, geopolitical and ethno-political dynamics in South-West Asian Countries and in the Gulf.

Paolo Cotta-Ramusino is the present Secretary General of Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs and Professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Milan. His area of expertise covers Nuclear Disarmament & Non proliferation and conflict resolution in regions where nuclear weapons programs are present.

Roberta Ballabio is the LNCV Programme Officer and Analyst in Middle East geopolitics, with special focus on resources management, water and energy security and development cooperation. Graduated in Political Sciences at the University of Milan - Statale, with a specialization in management of development projects, she carried out research programs on social and economic issues with different universities. Before joining LNCV, she collaborated or coordinated programs of international cooperation concerning capacity building and local empowerment in Ghana, Morocco, Cape Verde, Thailand and Pakistan with Italian NGOs.

Andrea Plebani is PhD candidate at the Catholic University of the S. Heart of Milan and Research Fellow at the LNCV. Graduated in Political Sciences at the Catholic University of the S. Heart of Milan, before joining the LNCV in 2005 he collaborated with the Italian Center for Peace in the Middle East (CIPMO). He wrote several articles on Global Terrorism, Middle East and South Asia, and he is collaborating with several Italian journals and reviews.
