International Workshop on:
Iraq: Domestic Stabilization and the Regional Ethno-Religious Polarization
November 9-10, 2007, Council Room, Municipality of Como, Italy
Organized by
Landau Network Centro Volta (LNCV) and
Iraqi National Accademy of Science of Baghdad (INAS).
Promoted and Supported by
the General Directorate for Mediterranean and Middle-East (GDMM)
of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)
The Workshop aimed to discuss the political, social and security situation in Iraq, in particular the many challenges which the new Iraq is facing, in order to analyse the multidimensional aspects associated with the stability, the regional security relations and current trends of the new Iraq and of the Middle-East.
Due to the relevance of the neighbouring countries’ role for the stabilization of Iraq the Seminar also focused on the regional scenario and on the necessity of enhancing regional stability in order to reduce the lack of confidence and misperceptions amongst Iraq and its neighbors.
The Workshop represents a follow up of the LNCV Workshops held in Como, on November 24-25, 2006, on Iraq after the Government: stabilization, security problems and the regional scenario and on November 4-5, 2005, on The New Iraq. Stabilization, Reconciliation, Institution-Building and the Regional Scenario.
